GETTING READY

Modern beauty contests have become more competitive as contestants are judged based on a wide range of activities. This is in contrast with pageants in the old days where most winners were selected only because of their admirable beauty or being from a pedigreed family. Preparing for an international beauty contest such as Miss Africa World requires a lot of training with specific strategies and optimum seriousness. As a contestant participating in an international beauty pageant, you need to be personally convinced that you are in it to win. The first step in winning a beauty pageant is realizing that the pageant is not won on the coronation night. It is rather won in the months spent in preparing for the contest; the long hours spent in the gym, and the time spent in personal development.

For any contestant who is keen on maximizing her chances of winning the beauty pageant, six months is just about enough time to get ready to conquer the world.

Ready to get sponsors to advertise on our souvenirs program book These are very important steps to take in preparing to participate in an international beauty contest.

Think Like A Beauty Queen: This is the first and most important step in your preparation. You need to have the mindset of a winner. In learning to think like a beauty queen, you need to know yourself and your strengths. You need this to stand out from the hundreds or sometimes thousands of beautiful ladies that you would compete with. Going in feeling like a winner would definitely help you pull through the pressure of competition. It would also give you the confidence to face the rigors of interviews and every other exhaustive prerequisite.

Get in Shape: You need to be in good shape to better your chances of winning the contest. Getting in shape is a tricky task, as some contestants might decide to starve or go on harmful diets to achieve this. Joining a gym or yoga club with experienced fitness trainers is rather a better choice. Workout routines which would make you develop too much should be avoided. A diet which includes a lot of water, fruits and vegetables will also help in keeping you in shape.

Get A Pageant Coach to Improve Your Chances: Having a good coach will help you in understanding the ins and outs of competing in a pageant. A coach will help you with learning what to wear, having the right composure and the kind of tasks to prepare for. A good coach is also responsible for helping to choose what beauty contests suits you well; as there is a long list of them. Contacting world-class pageantry firms like Empress Universe would be a wise decision in aiding who to select as your coach.

Hone Your Talent: You need to pick a talent which you are very good at and comfortable with for the contest and work on it daily. This will make you a master at it in time for the contest in six months. However, you need to choose a talent which is not vulgar or inappropriate in any way, as a beauty queen is a role model.

Prepare for Your Interview: This is a very important part of the contest. It is expedient that you rehearse your intelligent answers that project your personality with probable and past interview questions to stand a good chance of winning. In your preparation, you should also be familiar with your contestant resume as personal questions are usually picked from it.

In conclusion, studying past pageant winners is advisable. This is to know how they worked towards their win. It will tremendously help you in realizing what it takes to win and thus, pay attention to things that really matter.

Ironically enough, as I was writing this article, I was in the process of packing; although the packing criterion for my escapade was restrictive, which is no fun. However, the average hotel room is not equipped with the capacity to house all of our precious “must haves.” So we here at Pageant Planet want to help you put on your practical hat and see what you truly need, what you don’t and how to pack it all.

Packing can make you feel very anxious. I am right there with you, but as we often say on Pageant Planet, preparation and organization can make all of that stress disappear. Therefore, the painless cure to this issue is to get organized. I promise, with this step by step to do list, you will be on your way to a stress-free pageant week!

Food

Regardless of what your director says do not take their word for it that there will be healthy food for you leading up to the competition. I often find it humorous what the mass public considers “healthy”. More than likely you’re on a specific diet from your trainer and if that’s the case you’ve got to take your destiny into your own hands and come prepared.

  • Protein bars
  • Rice Cakes
  • Bottles of Water
  • Oatmeal
  • Pre-made meals that you put in Tupperware, store in the mini-fridge and then heat up in the microwave.

Clothes

Girls like Queen Uche and Queen Agbani  packed and label each of the wardrobe pieces before going to Miss Africa World . They both knew every outfit that they were going to wear before getting to the host hotel. Follow their lead. Even if you don’t put everything in oversized zip locked bags you can take photos of each outfit and accessories then store and label it on your phone for quick reference.
